Another month has passed and the academy is still holding strong, the children are preparing for the Loxion Ballet show which will be showcasing the children's talent. The piece they'll be dancing was choreographed by Penny and will be danced to a song by Kenny G. At the moment it is looking very good but there's still a lot of work to be done; by the children and the teachers. The show will be held on the 2nd June 2007 at the Central Johannesburg College which is situated in Alexandra.
The children have shown incredible improvement and attending practise regularly, even though there are still those down days. In the past month the academy has receive 5 new students who are also eager to be educated. The new students have also shown a little improvement and will be surely doing better as time goes by. They will also be the future dancers of Kasi Ballet Theatre.
4 of our students have been invited to dance with Johannesburg Youth Ballet. JYB conducts classes and rehearsals on weekends and holidays. Their show will also be taking part in June.
Dina Sekgobela
Dina is one of the kids who have been invited to do a performance with Johannesburg Youth Ballet. She’s been attending JYB classes and rehearsals on weekends and holidays. She is one of the top students at JYB in her grade and has amazed the JYB teachers and students.
Dulce Mbiza
Dulce has also been invited to perform with JYB and is enthusiastic about dancing with kids from around Johannesburg. She's always the first to arrive at the pick up spot, ready to go dancing. Dulce has attended most of the classes and rehearsals since February.
Mbali Mogale
Mbali joined the other students at JYB a week ago and caught up within those few days. She has learnt the choreography and is rehearsing with the other kids. The head of JYB was left flabbergasted when she saw Mbali dancing at the parents pre-performance held a few days ago.
Lebo Mafa
Lebo's at JYB has helped her in her improvement. "Having different teachers helps you to understand and learn ballet from different perspectives" said Lebo. Her keenness urges her to strive for more and pushes to become a better dancer.
Gaopalelwe Mkhine
Gaopalelwe is a person who is working hard and is showing great understanding of exercises and class work. I set a theory and vocabulary test weeks ago, she was one of the highest achievers in the class with the score of 79%. She had told me that, “she spent the whole week studying.” I say its sheer determination. All this she does it through her supportive mother who is always keen about her daughters work.
Thato Shai
Thato pushes himself a little harder than the other boys; he tries to learn everything we teach even the girls exercises. He strives to be good no matter what his friend say; he tries to be early everyday, changed and ready for practise. He shows interest in what he is doing.
Dimakatso Modiba
Dimakatso has worked extremely hard this month; she has lost almost 1 kg doing stomach exercises in class and at home. Even though there is still a lot of work to be done; she’ll be able keep up with the other children.
